Product information and Testimonials

What are JetSkins™?

JetSkins™ are light unisex compressive support tights made from certified Dupont Lycra. They are moulded to fit the body when seated for long periods on commercial or military aircraft.  They feel like a second skin and will last flight after flight.

Developed initially as preventative support apparel for the military and commercial air crew they are now available to the travelling public.  Designed to alleviate and reduce swelling and discomfort associated with most jet-lag symptoms as well as reducing the risk of developing deep vein thrombosis.  Patents Pending

As a long garment, they require slightly less compression than ankle to knee medical stockings.  They are engineered to help make up the difference between the pressures exerted on the body at sea level (14psi) and the pressure on the body inside an aircraft cabin pressurized to about 8,000’ (11psi).

JetSkins™ offer gradient compression from ankle to thigh, aiding venous circulation in healthy people but are not intended for those already suffering a specific illness including thrombosis and who need to wear higher compression stockings prescribed by a doctor.

JetSkins™ were designed in consultation with Retired USAF medical and NASA pressure suit specialists and are made in Australia by Compression Garment Technologies Pty Ltd

JetSkins™ have the endorsement of the Aviation Health Institute in the UK and are listed therapeutic garments TGA #80116 in Australia

Is flying suddenly dangerous to your health?

The simple answer is no, not from an air safety point of view as a method of mass transport.  Air travel is proven the safest way to journey but concerns relating to the health of passengers are an ongoing issue, particularly since the development of long distance jet aircraft.

Flying has been made affordable, simple and an everyday occurrence, because of that it is proving difficult to make passengers aware that they can take steps themselves to reduce and avoid possible medical problems.

Those concerns include cabin air quality and dehydration, the effect of cosmic radiation, jet lag and deep vein thrombosis.  As each issue is studied, more information becomes known and significant data is ascertained.

Jet Lag has always been treated as an inconvenience, something that is expected when you fly long distances to different parts of the world.  Jet Lag is more than a simple nuisance; some symptoms can herald more serious complaints.  In reality it allegedly affects more than 95% of all passengers and most air crew, to varying degrees.

The ‘phenomena’ of deep vein thrombosis or DVT is the most recent and medical authorities have been trying to put it into perspective.  Regardless of its incidence level in comparison with the non-flying public it is something which can be almost completely avoided with a few precautions.

Jetlag isn’t only about time zones. It’s about body zones.

Jetlag is one of the most common words associated with aviation, and effects people in different ways and to different degrees. To the traveller, Jetlag generally means the unpleasant side effects of crossing global time zones – fatigue, insomnia, stomach upsets, aches and pains, irritability and disorientation.

The solution to avoiding Jetlag is as easy as wearing the right clothes. Or to be more precise, wearing the right thing under your clothes - JetSkins.

The secret is in the science

JetSkins provide graduated compression support for your feet, your leg muscles and your entire lower body, maintaining healthy circulation during those forced periods of inactivity on long flights, and minimising swelling and dehydration - the primary cause of jetlag. The gentle compressive effect of JetSkins over the whole lower body means that they are comfortable to wear. Made from Lycra and Meryl Microfibre, JetSkins regulate your temperature without overheating – they breathe, wick perspiration and are sanitised.

Slip JetSkins on under your clothing before you fly and leave on until final destination - you’ll be surprised just how much better you feel after your journey.

DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis)

Even travellers who are regarded as fit and healthy can suffer from clotting of blood in the lower legs. Similarly to the effects of Jetlag, the conditions that cause a predisposition to DVT include immobility, cabin pressure, dehydration, lack of oxygen and compression of veins.

The solution to helping reduce the risk of DVT is as easy as wearing JetSkins, and is endorsed by The Aviation Health Institute.

Disclaimer: If you have a known medical condition you are advised to seek advice from a qualified medical practitioner prior to travel.

The technology behind Skins is simple but effective.  Compression garments have an effect on the wearer that can promote circulation whilst improving power, performance and endurance.

The benefits of compression therapy in assisting human physiology, is a well-known branch of medical science.  I have been involved with pressure and pressure suits for many years, both in the RAN as a diver and with the US Air force.  Being an astronaut, I also understand the effects of altitude and gravity.

I can see the benefits from reducing the effect of altitude on the body, either when flying long distances, or carrying out any activity for extended periods at altitude. Wearing a garment like JetSkins should assist circulation whilst reducing the various symptoms and fatigue known as ‘jet lag’.

I have no hesitation supporting the technology and reasoning behind Skins and can well see the benefits in the aviation, medical and sporting fields.
