Travelling by air, car
or train:
Travelling on long-haul flights with
children can be a little daunting but with some careful planning, it can be an
enjoyable experience for children, parents and fellow passengers.
Here are some simple tips:
On the day of travel, ensure your
child/children have adequate exercise before boarding the airplane, this will
help resist the urge for them to run around the cabin once settled in their
seat!
Most airlines do carry supplies of baby food etc but
it is wise to take what you know your child enjoys eating.
If travelling with a baby,
give them a bottle or pacifier to suck on during landing and take off. This
will help equalise their ear pressure.
Cabin temperature can be warmer or (more often)
cooler than children are used to at home. Dress them in comfortable layers
that can be removed or added, and take a couple of spare tops for warmth or in
case of spills.
Whilst on the aircraft, amuse your children with
toys, books and activities packs that they haven't seen before. This may hold their
attention for longer.
Before leaving the airplane, ensure you have all
personal belongings, especially your children's favourite toy or book as it
can add unnecessary stress later on when everyone is tired. |
